A leading Quebec energy-efficiency services company, operating as both an engineering firm and a general contractor, is looking for an assistant project manager for its energy-efficiency construction projects. With more than 600 large-scale turnkey projects delivered across the institutional, municipal, commercial and industrial markets, our client offers a rare training ground for anyone building a serious career in project management.
The mandate
You support the project managers in delivering energy-efficiency construction projects, from mobilization through to close-out. This is a hands-on, field-based coordination role: you are the junction point between the engineering teams, the subcontractors and the client. It is also a progression role: you learn the full mechanics of a turnkey project alongside people who have delivered hundreds of them, with the goal of taking on your own mandates.
The role day to day
- Support the project manager in planning, executing and closing out construction mandates
- Coordinate subcontractors and suppliers: tender calls, purchase orders, delivery follow-up
- Track schedules, budgets and hours, and flag variances quickly
- Prepare and manage site documentation: shop drawings, technical data sheets, requests for information, change notices
- Conduct site visits and ensure compliance with health and safety, quality and contractual requirements
- Support commissioning and the handover of project close-out documents to the client
- Attend site and coordination meetings and prepare the minutes
The ideal profile
- DEC or bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, civil, construction) or building technology
- 2 to 5 years of experience in construction project management, ideally in building mechanics, electricity or energy efficiency
- Comfortable reading plans and specifications
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite; MS Project or equivalent, an asset
- Fluent French and functional English
- Valid driver’s licence — travel to job sites
Experience on institutional or municipal projects, knowledge of HVAC, lighting or controls systems, an ASP Construction card and a strong interest in the energy transition will all be considered assets.
Key skills: Construction Project Management, Site Coordination, Subcontractor Management, Budget Tracking, Schedule Management, Plans and Specifications, Construction Documentation, MS Project, Occupational Health and Safety, Energy Efficiency
What our client offers
- Competitive compensation, confirmed on the first call
- Permanent, full-time, on-site position in Montréal, Quebec, with travel to job sites
