The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for developing innovative product concepts and functional prototypes used for concept validation. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, NPI, you will manage various innovation projects from concept definition to the start of the new product development process. You will identify intellectual properties and provide the necessary documentation to secure their ownership.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and execute innovative design projects through proof of concepts.
- Collaborate with product managers to develop product concepts based on customer insights and field research.
- Conduct market research and competitive benchmarking to better understand the competition and identify opportunities for improvement/innovation.
- Develop, design, and review detailed 3D product constructions using SolidWorks (or other viewers).
- Develop functional prototypes for proof-of-concept testing.
- Perform Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) for product concepts.
- Collaborate with suppliers to develop innovative products while securing intellectual property or exclusivity based on the nature of the innovation.
- Identify innovations and take necessary steps to secure intellectual property.
- Develop test plans to evaluate products during proof-of-concept testing.
- Lead design reviews for new product concepts.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mandatory).
- Professional Engineer, member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in product design and development.
- Experience and exposure to the design of small electromechanical devices.
- Experience in the documentation required for a patent application (an asset).
- Ability to design electrical circuits and prototypes to validate innovation concepts.
- Ability to design products using SolidWorks (an asset).
- Analytical skills with the ability to break down concepts and translate them into various applications.
- Experience in coordinating projects with overseas suppliers.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and lead them to successful completion.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English and French).
- Proven ability to multitask and work with various departments and overseas suppliers.
- Ability to build components using basic tools, 3D printers, or by identifying sources for necessary parts.
