Financial Controller

Description

As the Controller – Financial Services for our Service Center, you will play a pivotal role in establishing and managing a new standard of financial excellence to support our operations in the USA and Canada. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will be responsible for overseeing treasury management, tax compliance, commercial insurances, and certain consolidated reports for both countries, ensuring regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and strategic alignment with the objectives of each company.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Treasury Management

    • Develop and implement treasury policies and procedures for cash management, liquidity forecasting, and risk mitigation in close collaboration with the group Treasurer in Germany.
    • Manage banking systems performance and relationships, optimize cash balances in USD, CAD, Euro, and AUD, monitor investments and loans performance, monitor daily cash transactions, and lead transactional issue resolution with banks. Manage credit card programs.
  2. Tax Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local tax regulations for all our operations in the USA and Canada, including income tax, sales tax, and other applicable taxes.
    • Coordinate with external tax advisors and authorities to file accurate and timely tax returns and instalments. Support the resolution of any tax-related issues our entities may face.
    • Coordinate with external tax advisors the annual current and deferred tax expense. Ensure auditors receive proper documentation and resolve any tax-related issues related to the audit.
  3. Commercial Insurances

    • Evaluate insurance needs and procure commercial insurance policies to protect against operational risks in Canada and the USA in close collaboration with operations, the two brokers, and the group Treasurer in Germany.
    • Coordinate with the 2 insurance brokers and underwriters to negotiate terms, coverage, and premiums.
    • Ensure all insurance operating requirements are fulfilled and lead the insurance claim process.
  4. Financial Reporting

    • Prepare internal audited consolidated financial statements for Canada and USA operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Canadian and/or US GAAP and bank agreement requirements (if any).
  5. Process Establishment

    • Establish standardized processes and controls for treasury management, insurance administration, taxation, and consolidated financial reporting within the service center and the operating entities.
    • Implement best practices, leverage AI technology solutions, and train team members to ensure operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field with CPA certification or Master in Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in leading position related to treasury management, tax compliance, commercial insurance, and financial reporting, preferably in a multinational environment.
  • Strong knowledge of financial and tax principles, regulations, and standards (Canada/USA).
  • Proficiency in financial reporting tools and experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP or alike).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and with remote teams and drive change in a dynamic environment.
