Mechanical Designer (Trois-Rivières)

Under the supervision of the General Manager of Engineering, the mechanical designer maintains up-to-date company drawings, collaborates closely with their supervisor on the development and estimation of projects, and actively participates in their execution. They ensure compliance with certain construction elements while maintaining a safe working environment.

Responsibilities

Project Execution

  • Participate in the design, layout, and estimation of project studies;
  • Create schematics and drawings to support studies and project implementation;
  • Contribute to project execution by ensuring compliance with construction elements;
  • Support adherence to timelines and budgets;
  • Collaborate in analyzing and researching solutions to address engineering challenges;
  • Assist project managers in resolving issues encountered;
  • Compile data and contribute to the development of evaluations and specifications;
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards in projects;
  • Research information from suppliers to estimate costs;
  • Place orders for equipment, supplies, and labor.

Maintenance Management

  • Produce process, electrical, and general arrangement drawings to support maintenance and operational safety;
  • Ensure drawings are updated for the company’s various divisions.

Personnel Management

  • Oversee subcontractors and contractors on job sites, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards;
  • Ensure safety regulations are followed on job sites and terminals.

Other Related Tasks

  • Plan time based on priorities and deadlines;
  • Be available to answer team questions by phone;
  • Perform any other tasks requested by the immediate supervisor within the scope of the role.

Requirements

  • Education: College diploma in mechanical engineering or a related industrial field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience: 2 to 5 years in engineering or project management.
  • Skills:
    • Leadership and organizational skills;
    • Excellent communication abilities;
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Other:
    • Languages: Fluent French; knowledge of English required (projects in Ontario with English-only subsidiaries).
    • Software: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Travel: Yes, as needed.
