Project Engineer – Municipal Infrastructure (Anjou)

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Civil Engineering or the Senior Director of Municipal Infrastructure, the Municipal Infrastructure Project Engineer is responsible for the management, design, and execution of municipal infrastructure projects. They oversee the technical and operational aspects of projects, ensuring compliance with standards, laws, and client requirements. They also serve as a technical reference, supporting their team in executing complex or large-scale projects.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of service proposals and cost estimations for municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Design, plan, and manage municipal infrastructure projects from initiation to completion.
  • Provide technical supervision to engineers, engineering interns, drafters, surveyors, and site supervisors, offering constructive feedback to ensure compliance with professional and quality standards.
  • Plan, organize, and schedule projects, adhering to timelines, specifications, and allocated budgets.
  • Prepare and present budget forecasts for municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Establish execution schedules, monitor progress, and verify compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Develop and implement quality control programs tailored to municipal projects.
  • Produce progress reports, monitoring programs, technical reports, and documents required by municipal or provincial authorities.
  • Manage invoicing for assigned mandates.
  • Collaborate with the director to assess staffing needs and participate, if necessary, in the recruitment of subcontractors or personnel.
  • Support, advise, and motivate team members to optimize their performance.
  • Stay informed about new technologies, standards, and trends in municipal infrastructure to identify opportunities for improvement or potential risks.
  • Resolve complex technical or operational issues unresolved at lower levels.
  • Provide specialized technical support to the team, particularly in design and calculations.
  • Contribute to the development or updating of work procedures related to municipal infrastructure.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with clients, professionals, and stakeholders, leading them when necessary.
  • Ensure rigorous project follow-up and maintain smooth, effective communication with clients.

Job Requirements

Core Competencies

  • Excellent command of French (spoken and written).
  • Functional knowledge of English (spoken and written).

Technical Competencies

  • In-depth expertise in civil engineering, specializing in municipal infrastructure (sewers, water mains, roads, etc.).
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Proficiency in relevant design and calculation tools (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other specialized software).

Education or Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction engineering.
  • Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • Health and safety training for construction sites (ASP Construction card).

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in civil engineering, with significant expertise in managing municipal infrastructure projects.
