Automation Specialist (l’Orignal)

Reporting to the Automation Engineering Manager, the Automation Specialist plans, develops, and commissions new automation systems. They also provide support in troubleshooting and maintaining automation systems, including software, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), hardware, and Level 2 process control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the proper functioning of critical plant servers in collaboration with IT support.
  • Provide technical support for various automation equipment, including PLCs, scale indicators, sensors, and meters.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain supervisory and SCADA/HMI systems, recipe systems, tracking systems, and data collection systems.
  • Integrate new automation equipment and systems into the current production environment, including PLCs, PLC code, SCADA/HMI systems, and database interfaces.
  • Provide direct support to the plant during normal operations and planned shutdowns.
  • Document existing and new automation systems.
  • Stay updated on all critical automation systems to diagnose failures.
  • Program, implement, and maintain automation systems using various programming languages, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of data and reports for production, quality assurance, and other departments.
  • Stay informed about new computer technologies and production processes to improve existing systems.
  • Work with users and system administrators during installation phases and provide training as needed.
  • Train employees, such as electricians, on automation systems (PLCs, sensors, and other automation devices).
  • Review software and hardware issues with operators and other users, providing ongoing technical support for automation systems.

  • Diagnostic tools, computer hardware, and communication devices.
  • Software such as C++, C#, Java, Wonderware, Cimplicity, PHP, Control Expert, Machine Edition, Step 7 Simatic.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • University degree in engineering or a related field eligible for P.Eng designation preferred, OR a technical diploma from an accredited college.
  • Experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA systems (GE Cimplicity, Siemens WinCC).
  • Knowledge of networking, IT infrastructure, servers, and computer hardware.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, C#, or equivalent scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server and T-SQL language.
  • Bilingualism: French and English (spoken and written) preferred.
