Continuous Improvement / WCM Engineer (L’Orignal)

Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Continuous Improvement Manager, the Continuous Improvement / WCM Engineer actively supports the steel plant and rod mill teams in the rigorous and rapid deployment of the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) methodology, achieving sustainable results. They engage enthusiastically and accessibly with all levels of the organization, clearly and thoroughly explain methodologies, and empower teams to achieve lasting success.

Responsibilities

Implement and Manage WCM Standards
  • Ensure the design and implementation of WCM operational standards by proposing changes in work practices, new processes, and plant developments.
  • Collaborate with the operational leadership team to identify and prioritize high-impact initiatives that significantly improve results.
  • Facilitate change management throughout all stages of the WCM journey to establish continuous improvement and teamwork as a standard practice.
Training and Support
  • Work closely with pillar owners (Safety, Maintenance, Quality, People Development, Customer Focus, etc.) to ensure progress in all areas.
  • Train employees on the WCM approach, tasks, and techniques, and evaluate the effectiveness of these training sessions.
  • Provide training and support on CI tools such as Kaizen, 5S, Breakdown Analysis Technique (BAT), Cost Deployment (CD), WCM, etc., for shop floor employees, managers, and leaders.
Operational Assessments and Improvement
  • Conduct assessments of manufacturing operations to identify improvement opportunities, increasing efficiency, reducing waste, lowering inventory, shortening lead times, and improving quality.
  • Develop KPIs, measure quantifiable benefits, and track progress.
  • Assist in developing and implementing site-specific continuous improvement goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate CI tools, techniques, and information, responding to questions from operators, team leaders, CI champions, managers, and clients.
  • Create process maps and Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to identify bottlenecks in the plant.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
  • Experience: 3–5 years in implementing WCM or continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Languages: Bilingual (English and French) is an asset.
  • Experience in delivering training on CI techniques/tools is required.
  • Certifications: Six Sigma Green Belt is an asset.
  • Proficient in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Power BI, Visio, Minitab, etc.).
  • Quick learner with innovative thinking, strong analytical skills, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks with clear priorities.

Required Experience

  • CI techniques/tools: 3 years (mandatory).
  • WCM implementation: 3 years (mandatory).
