Job Description
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Electrical Maintenance Manager supervises and leads the maintenance team to ensure the upkeep of electrical equipment at the steel plant while meeting safety, quality, efficiency, cost, and service objectives.
General Responsibilities
- Ensure the application of safe work practices and procedures.
- Apply and develop the company’s health and safety program, ensuring all employees have the opportunity to learn its elements.
- Conduct safety audits.
- Ensure all employees are trained in job requirements before permanent assignment (team of approximately 25 people).
- Research new materials to update employee training programs.
- Implement the company’s training programs and develop the skills of department personnel.
- Communicate performance expectations to subordinates.
- Monitor and evaluate performance, providing coaching as necessary.
- Conduct interviews, review qualifications, select, and recommend candidates for employment.
- Ensure compliance with company regulations and policies, applying corrective or disciplinary measures in case of violations.
- Define departmental quality standards and ensure all employees are aware of the standards and new requirements.
- Ensure ISO procedures are up-to-date and adhered to within the department.
Specific Responsibilities
- Observe all safety rules.
- Determine necessary repairs using reports and schedules, plan work schedules, and organize shutdowns and repairs.
- Report and investigate all accidents to prevent recurrence.
- Communicate performance expectations to employees.
- Assign tasks, communicate schedules and deadlines, set priorities, and initiate corrective/preventive actions to meet deadlines.
- Coordinate with the supervisor to resolve concerns or disputes at their level and apply provisions of collective agreements.
- Validate timekeeping records on a weekly basis.
- Implement World Class Manufacturing (WCM) techniques to promote continuous improvement and achieve a zero-loss state in the manufacturing process.
- Coordinate and execute weekly preventive maintenance (PM) tasks with the maintenance planner to reduce backlogs and complete necessary measures before the due date.
- Strive to become an expert in their area of responsibility.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Degree in industrial or electrical engineering.
- 5 years of relevant experience in the field of industrial maintenance.
- Mandatory Red Seal certification and professional qualifications.
- In-depth knowledge of melt shop and rod mill processes preferred.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Strong commitment to health and safety.
- Bilingual in English and French (oral and written) preferred.
