Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor (L’orignal)

Job Description

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager for the rod mill, the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor oversees and directs the maintenance team to ensure the upkeep of mechanical equipment at the plant while meeting safety, quality, efficiency, cost, and service objectives.

General Responsibilities

  • Ensure the application of safe work practices and procedures.
  • Apply and develop the company’s health and safety program, ensuring all employees have the opportunity to learn its elements.
  • Conduct safety audits.
  • Ensure all employees are trained in job requirements before permanent assignment (team of approximately 25 people).
  • Research new materials to update employee training programs.
  • Implement company training programs and develop the skills of department personnel.
  • Communicate performance expectations to subordinates.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance and provide coaching as necessary.
  • Conduct interviews, review qualifications, select, and recommend candidates for employment.
  • Ensure employees comply with company regulations and policies, applying corrective or disciplinary measures in case of violations.
  • Define departmental quality standards and ensure all employees are aware of the standards and new requirements.
  • Ensure ISO procedures are current and adhered to within the department.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Observe all safety rules.
  • Determine necessary repairs using reports and schedules, plan work schedules, and organize shutdowns and repairs.
  • Report and investigate all accidents to prevent recurrence.
  • Organize monthly safety meetings and conduct on-site safety observations.
  • Train each employee for their role, completing training checklists as soon as training is completed.
  • Communicate performance expectations to employees.
  • Assign tasks, communicate work schedules and deadlines, set priorities, and initiate corrective actions as needed.
  • Coordinate with the supervisor to resolve concerns or interpretation disputes locally and apply provisions of collective agreements.
  • Complete daily shift reports.
  • Ensure weekly approval of timekeeping records.

Skills and Requirements

  • Degree in mechanical or industrial engineering with relevant experience in heavy industry preferred.
  • Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing plant is a strong asset.
  • Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Intermediate Excel skills.
  • Bilingual in English and French preferred.

Education

  • AEC/DEP or skilled trade certificate required.

Required Experience

  • CMMS system: 5 years preferred.
  • Relevant experience: 8 years required.
