Occupational Health and Safety Specialist (Montreal)

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary contact for all team members to understand and support daily health and safety activities
  • Conduct internal/external audits and site investigations with relevant stakeholders proactively and in response to accidents, incidents, or near-misses
  • Provide employees with the necessary support to implement occupational health and safety standards by regularly visiting job sites
  • Assist employees in addressing specific issues on construction sites
  • Support employees in developing and applying safe work methods and implementing the prevention program
  • Assist and advise employees in finding solutions to prevent workplace injuries, submit appropriate recommendations, and propose improvements and changes
  • Update and enforce health and safety policies in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Train employees on OHS procedures
  • Analyze incidents, identify causes, and implement corrective actions
  • Manage injury cases, plan and coordinate return-to-work processes, and oversee temporary assignments
  • Collaborate with managers to integrate health and safety practices into company processes
  • Participate in the company’s health and safety committee and any safety-focused initiatives
  • Prepare and present regular reports to the management committee

Requirements

  • Technical diploma in environment, hygiene, and occupational safety or a bachelor’s degree with a specialization in a relevant field (occupational health and safety or industrial relations)
  • Thorough knowledge of legislation and regulations (e.g., OHS Act, Safety Code, OHS Regulation) governing health and safety in the construction industry and related sectors
  • ASP training in general health and safety on construction sites
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in managing occupational health and safety prevention
