Summary Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Structures and Buildings, the Project Engineer – Structures and Buildings is responsible for the design, management, and execution of complex projects in the field of structures and buildings. They collaborate with team members to ensure compliance with standards, building codes, and client requirements while maintaining high-quality technical execution.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of service proposals and cost estimates for structures and buildings projects.
  • Design structures and building systems (structural calculations, modeling, sizing) using tools such as SAP2000, ETABS, AutoCAD, and Revit.
  • Draft technical reports, feasibility studies, and specifications for projects.
  • Plan and organize projects from start to completion, adhering to schedules, budgets, and client requirements.
  • Ensure designs comply with building codes, municipal standards, and current regulations.
  • Oversee construction site activities, verify compliance, and resolve on-site technical issues.
  • Collaborate with drafters, CAD technicians, and other professionals to produce accurate and detailed plans.
  • Conduct structural analyses and provide technical support to team members.
  • Participate in project coordination with clients, subcontractors, and relevant authorities.
  • Produce progress reports and maintain effective communication with stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of design methods and tools.
  • Stay informed about new technologies, materials, and trends in the design and construction of structures and buildings.
  • Participate in budget management and invoicing for assigned projects.
  • Support management in assessing resource needs and, if necessary, in recruiting personnel or subcontractors.

Job Requirements

Core Competencies

  • Excellent proficiency in French (oral and written).
  • Functional knowledge of English (oral and written).

Technical Competencies

  • Expertise in civil engineering, with a specialization in structures and buildings.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Proficiency in structural design and calculation tools (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, AutoCAD, Revit).
  • Knowledge of Quebec building codes and standards.

Education or Certifications

  • Active member of the Ordre des ingĂ©nieurs du QuĂ©bec (OIQ).
  • Health and safety training for construction sites (ASP Construction card, an asset).

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design and management of structures and buildings projects.
