Sales Application Specialist (Laval, Laurentides, Lanaudière)

A Sales Application Specialist / Technical Sales Representative is a technical representative specializing in solution sales. They are a sales team member whose role is to promote and sell the company’s products and services as defined in the company’s sales and marketing plan (e.g., developing complex applications/systems, conducting client visits, promoting to clients, participating in events, etc.).

Business Development / Representation – 70%

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients in the assigned territory (prospecting, phone/email solicitation, appointment scheduling, scheduled and unscheduled visits, sales history tracking).
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to develop “systems/applications solutions”: this involves multiple steps in the chain, including client outreach, data collection, bid writing and presentation to clients, and participation in post-sales technical development.
  • Increase sales through cross-selling strategies (primarily through the sale of complete systems).
  • Promote the company’s products, services, and values while maintaining quality standards.
  • Assist clients, identify their needs, and serve as the link between them and internal sales and/or technical departments (assess needs and expectations, collect relevant data).
  • Prepare bids for small-scale projects.
  • Submit project bids to clients (close the file, negotiate terms and conditions).
  • Hand over orders to internal sales along with all relevant information.
  • Monitor competitors’ activities and inform the sales manager.
  • Identify inter-territory opportunities for the company’s benefit and inform the sales director.
  • Attend specified industrial trade shows as directed.
  • Track bid progress.

Technical Support – 20%

  • Act as the liaison between the client and technical engineering departments.
  • Provide proactive product recommendations.
  • Instruct clients on product terminology, features, and benefits.
  • Offer technical support (troubleshooting, diagnostics, data collection).
  • Recommend alternative products based on cost, availability, and specifications (interchanges, product research, customer support).

Administrative Tasks – 10%

  • Draft/enter bids via Contal/Word/Email.
  • Prepare, establish, and present price agreements to select clients in collaboration with internal sales management and the sales director.
  • Weekly submission of visit reports to the sales manager.
  • Monthly submission of expense accounts to accounting.
  • Prepare for and actively participate in sales meetings (e.g., visit planning).
  • Convey customer satisfaction/dissatisfaction to the sales director.
  • Effectively use available IT systems (Contal, Outlook, other client management software; e.g., Zoho CRM, Google Cloud).
  • Maintain up-to-date information for all clients within the sales territory.
  • Track bid progress.

Note: Order entry for client orders is handled by internal sales.

Educational Background:

  • Technical Bachelor’s degree OR Technical Diploma in Electromechanics OR equivalent experience.

Years of Relevant Experience:

  • 15 years or more.

Other Knowledge/Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge in electromechanics and servo positioning.
  • Good knowledge in hydraulics (servo positioning).
  • A deficiency in either of the above points can be compensated by excellent knowledge of one of the requirements.
  • Motivated and capable of learning new technologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Possession of a valid passport and driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of the immediate region within the sales territory.

Spoken/Written Languages:

  • Very good knowledge of French and mastery of English.
