The mandate

 

Larouche Raymond is representing a confidential client, a well-established employer in the Montreal area, in its search for an Estimating Director. You will own the full estimating process, lead a team of estimators and act as a strategic partner to senior management on business development. This is a high-visibility leadership role for a seasoned professional who is as comfortable with numbers as with people. Every application is handled with complete discretion.

The role day to day

 
  • Direct and oversee the complete estimating cycle, from tender document analysis through to final bid submission.
  • Lead, coach and develop a team of estimators while ensuring rigour and consistency in working methods.
  • Review plans, specifications and scopes of work to establish accurate quantities, costs and schedules.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing.
  • Validate pricing strategies and margins with management before each bid is submitted.
  • Take part in project kickoff meetings to ensure a clean handoff to the execution teams.
  • Continuously improve estimating tools, templates and cost databases to sharpen accuracy.
  • Monitor market, material and labour cost trends to anticipate fluctuations.

The ideal profile

 
  • Minimum of 10 years of estimating experience, including several in a management or supervisory role.
  • Education in civil engineering, construction engineering, architecture or a related field, and membership in a relevant professional order (assets).
  • Strong command of plan and specification reading and of detailed estimating methods.
  • Comfort with estimating software and advanced-level Microsoft Excel.
  • Proven leadership and a track record of mobilizing and growing a team.
  • Rigour, organization and the ability to manage multiple files under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills in French.
