The mandate

 

Larouche Raymond is representing a confidential client, a world-class steel producer specializing in wire rod rolling, located in L’Orignal in Eastern Ontario. Part of a major North American industrial group with more than 600 employees, the organization is recognized for the quality of its production and the rigour of its operations. As Metallurgical Engineer, you will be at the heart of quality assurance, technical investigations and the continuous improvement of products and processes. The role day to day

 
  • Lead root-cause investigations into field product failures and prepare the analysis reports delivered to customers.
  • Drive metallurgical analyses for non-routine customer complaints, then recommend, document and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Provide technical guidance to metallurgy laboratory technologists and support the wire rod release process to customers.
  • Review quality reports and ensure heats and billets that do not meet chemical, mechanical or structural requirements are downgraded or rejected.
  • Conduct metallurgical and statistical studies on products and processes to support continuous improvement of the rolling mill.
  • Support production with in-line troubleshooting through defect analysis.
  • Work with quality assurance, production and shipping to coordinate release priorities and prevent incidents at customer sites.

The ideal profile

 
  • Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering or materials science.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a steelmaking or metallurgical environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of the wire rod rolling process, a strong asset.
  • Analytical rigour, strong organizational skills and the ability to manage several priorities at once.
  • Proficiency with computer tools, particularly Excel, Word and databases.
  • Bilingualism in French and English, spoken and written, an asset.
  • Criminal background check required.
