Our client, a well-established steel producer in Eastern Ontario with more than 600 employees, is modernizing its production planning with the deployment of Microsoft Dynamics 365. It is looking for a Business Process Owner – Planning to take charge of rebuilding that process and become its in-house authority. This is a tangible opportunity to shape how a steel plant plans, loads and delivers.
The mandate
Reporting to the SIOP Planning Manager, you will evaluate the current production planning process and, working with the D365 project team and the external implementation consultant, design the D365 planning process so that it meets the company’s requirements. In parallel, you own day-to-day production planning: the production schedule, billet procurement, plant loading and shipment tracking. By the end of the first year, the expectation is a D365 planning process that is defined, documented and adopted by the teams, along with a measurable improvement in shipments against forecast.
The role day to day
- Assess the current planning process, identify the gaps and design the target process in D365 with the project team and the external consultant.
- Facilitate the production schedule and billet procurement from all suppliers.
- Monitor wire rod shipments and adjust the production schedule to improve delivery performance against forecast.
- Monitor daily plant loading to ensure every customer order is produced and approved for shipment.
- Monitor the capacity loading of processors so material reaches customers on time and affiliate processors run efficiently.
- Track and report departmental KPIs to leadership.
- Facilitate internal review and training sessions to support adoption of the new process.
The ideal profile
- 5 to 7 years of production planning experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in industrial manufacturing.
- Hands-on planning experience in an ERP system; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) is an asset.
- Bilingual in English and French, spoken and written (required).
- Comfortable with modern software applications.
- Able to communicate clearly with leadership and to facilitate review and training sessions.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, able to delegate and prioritize, and a genuine team player.
