A leading North American pulp and paper manufacturer, recognized for its sustainable production practices, is seeking an MES Functional Analyst for its Laurentians-based team. This role sits at the convergence of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT), supporting the critical infrastructure that keeps production running.
The mandate
Reporting to the Director of Enterprise and Manufacturing IT Applications, the MES Functional Analyst ensures alignment between IT and OT systems to guarantee the integration, optimization and security of critical infrastructure. You will manage and support the technologies powering operational systems — industrial control systems, DCS, PLC and IIoT devices — working directly with the operations team and other cross-functional groups. The goal: maintain the continuity of critical operations while advancing automation and data analytics across the plants.
The role day to day
- Support daily operations by providing technical support for systems and applications, resolving issues and ensuring system availability
- Monitor OT system performance and apply the updates, patches and configuration changes required to maintain security and performance
- Lead or contribute to OT projects from design and planning through implementation and testing, minimizing disruption to operations
- Review new equipment acquisition requests to ensure secure, seamless integration and compliance with internal policies
- Collect, analyze and interpret operational data from OT systems to generate actionable insights for continuous improvement and automation
- Support the development of OT documentation, including architecture diagrams, process flows and troubleshooting guides
- Produce regular reports on system performance, availability and security for stakeholders
The ideal profile
- University or post-secondary education in computer science, industrial electronics or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial systems operations, ideally in an industrial-automation support role within a manufacturing environment
- In-depth experience with manufacturing execution systems (MES) such as Magiq Elixir and Sage, as well as quality information systems such as QIS and MOPS
- Strong knowledge of Data Historian and analytics platforms (PI, PARCview) and command of OT technologies (DCS, PLC, IIoT, monitoring systems)
- Working knowledge of IT systems (networks, databases, cloud platforms) and cybersecurity tools (firewalls, intrusion detection, SIEM)
- Excellent communication skills in both French and English
