Plant Manager — Trois-Rivières — Up to $180,000 global

A well-established Quebec manufacturer in paper converting and packaging, located in the Mauricie region, is seeking the leader who will take charge of its entire plant operation. The plant is in a turnaround phase: the mandate is clear, the levers are real, and the reporting line is direct — this role reports to the President and CEO, with no layer in between.

The mandate

The Plant Manager is accountable for the complete operational chain — purchasing, planning, production, maintenance and shipping — and leads a team of roughly 65 floor employees plus support staff, through supervisors across three shifts. The first year targets three concrete outcomes: raising weekly output from 7-8 million to 9 million bags with the existing equipment, bringing the scrap rate down from about 9% to 7% or less, and implementing a real-time measurement system (Worximity) that becomes the plant’s daily decision-making tool. Health and safety is the entry condition: zero lost-time incidents.

The role day to day

  • Run the daily management system (DMS) across all three shifts, with living visual boards where every gap generates an action, an owner and a date
  • Drive OEE by machine and by shift, attacking losses in order of financial impact
  • Build a realistic, respected production plan, sequenced to minimize format changeovers, with a capacity horizon delivered to the sales team every week
  • Implement a structured preventive maintenance program and close the inherited maintenance backlog with a costed, prioritized plan
  • Secure material availability: alternate sources on critical inputs, supplier performance management, zero machine stoppages caused by supply shortages
  • Coach and develop the supervisors, keep the cross-training matrix current, and own absenteeism, turnover and the shop-floor climate
  • Spend the majority of the time on the floor, including regular presence on evening and night shifts

The ideal profile

  • Engineering degree (industrial, mechanical, automated production) or equivalent manufacturing management experience; membership in a professional order is an asset
  • 8 to 12 years in production management, ideally in converting or transformation (paper, packaging, printing)
  • Multi-shift team supervision experience, in unionized or non-unionized settings
  • Demonstrated implementation of measurement systems (OEE, MES, DMS) and visual management
  • Strong comfort with data: Excel, dashboards, variance analysis; solid grounding in procurement and production planning
  • Fluent French and functional English (US clients and suppliers)

Key skills: Production Management, OEE, Continuous Improvement, Preventive Maintenance, Production Planning, Procurement, Occupational Health and Safety, Visual Management, Lean Manufacturing, Multi-Shift Team Leadership

What our client offers

  • Base salary of $150,000, plus an annual performance bonus of 10% to 15% of base salary tied to objective attainment
  • 4 weeks of vacation, granted from day one
  • Deferred profit-sharing plan (DPSP) with an employer contribution equal to 4% of base salary
  • Executive group insurance, a $50 monthly cell phone allowance, and professional order dues paid by the employer
  • On-site role in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, at the heart of the operation
