A well-established Quebec group in logistics and industrial services, headquartered in the Mauricie region, continues to grow across Quebec and Ontario with some 500 specialists working in its terminals. Stevedoring, warehousing, handling and processing, transportation, chemical distribution: the safe handling of dry bulk, liquid bulk and hazardous materials is the core of its expertise. Our client is looking for a Project Electrical and Instrumentation Technician who wants to see projects through from the first idea to post-commissioning support.
The mandate
Reporting to the Director – Technical Services and Projects, you take part in the design, estimating and delivery of electrical and instrumentation projects across the group’s terminals. You own equipment installation projects end to end while acting as the technical reference for the electrical maintenance team. By the end of the first year, your projects are expected to be delivered within the established budgets and timelines, and post-commissioning instrumentation issues resolved quickly and for good.
The role day to day
- Lead equipment installation projects from design through commissioning, covering the electrical and instrumentation scopes
- Design technical solutions: select components, produce single-line diagrams and prepare quotes, schedules and technical reports within approved budgets
- Coordinate the procurement of materials and services from suppliers and the labour required to complete the work
- Install, commission and calibrate instruments (pH, flow meters, etc.) as well as production equipment
- Diagnose and resolve electrical and instrumentation problems, including outside regular hours when required
- Supervise subcontractors and contractors on job sites and in the terminals, ensuring compliance with health and safety and environmental standards
- Keep programming software current and maintain up-to-date knowledge of instrumentation safety systems across the sites
The ideal profile
- College diploma (DEC) in industrial electronics or electrical engineering technology (automation and control), or vocational diploma (DEP) in electromechanics, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- 2 to 5 years of experience in an instrumentation and/or electrical role
- Proficiency with Omron and Allen Bradley programming software and the Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Knowledge of electrical networks, automation and the manufacturing sector
- French required, plus a working knowledge of English to communicate with the Ontario subsidiaries
- Availability to travel to the group’s sites as projects require
