Senior Structural Engineer — Buildings — Up to $150,000 — Montréal

Carry building-structure mandates from design through to site for an established Montreal consulting engineering firm, with direct access to technical leadership and a genuine path to partnership.

Up to $150,000 · Montréal, QC · Hybrid · Minimum 8 years · Full-time

The mandate

Our client is a well-established Montreal consulting engineering firm specializing in building structures, with mandates spanning institutional, commercial, multifamily residential and industrial projects — from new construction to the rehabilitation of heritage buildings. Teams are deliberately compact: the engineer who designs is the one who seals and goes to site. This role is built for a senior engineer who has moved past pure execution and wants to shape design decisions upstream — structural system selection, cost-performance trade-offs, feasibility — with direct access to technical leadership and a genuine path to partnership.

The role day to day

  • Design and size reinforced concrete, steel, timber and masonry structures for medium- to large-scale building projects
  • Perform and verify structural analyses: static, seismic, wind loads and serviceability limit states
  • Produce, review and seal drawings, specifications and calculation notes, acting as engineer of record on your mandates (schedules, fee budgets, deliverables)
  • Carry out site inspections and construction surveillance; respond to RFIs and review shop drawings
  • Conduct structural assessments and capacity evaluations on existing buildings
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and technicians, reviewing their work
  • Contribute to business development: client meetings, technical proposals and fee estimates

The ideal profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or construction engineering and active membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
  • 8+ years of experience in building structural design, including a significant portion in a consulting engineering firm
  • Command of the National Building Code and the Quebec Construction Code, plus CSA A23.3, CSA S16 and CSA O86, with confirmed seismic design experience
  • Proficiency with SAFI, S-Frame, ETABS, SAP2000, Robot or an equivalent analysis tool, and working knowledge of Revit and BIM workflows
  • Demonstrated ability to carry a mandate end to end and to lead a technical team
  • Fluent French, spoken and written; functional English an asset

Key skills: SAFI, S-Frame, ETABS, SAP2000, Robot, Revit, BIM, OIQ, seismic design, CSA A23.3, CSA S16, CSA O86, National Building Code, Quebec Construction Code, reinforced concrete, steel, timber, masonry, construction surveillance.

What our client offers

  • Compensation of up to $150,000: total compensation is competitive, set according to experience and reviewed annually; it is discussed openly on the first call.
  • The position is full-time, hybrid with a flexible schedule, based in Montréal, Quebec.
  • A retirement plan with employer contribution.
  • Full group insurance (including dental and telemedicine).
  • Fully paid OIQ dues and continuing education.
  • A prospect of partnership for those looking to invest long term.
