The mandate

Larouche Raymond is representing a confidential client: a well-established Québec engineering firm specializing in energy efficiency, smart street lighting and connected cities, backed by a publicly traded Canadian group. Our client is seeking a Team Lead — Electrical Engineer to head a unit of 4 to 5 designers in lighting and control systems. This high-visibility mandate combines technical leadership, engineering sign-off and turnkey project delivery for major municipal and institutional clients. All applications are handled in strict confidence.

The role day to day

  • Drive the production cadence of a team of 4 to 5 designers: workload allocation, priorities, individual objectives and performance reviews.
  • Review, approve and seal engineering plans, specifications and deliverables in lighting and control systems produced by the team.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on schedule and on budget, including any contractual energy performance guarantee commitments.
  • Conduct or supervise field surveys (photometric measurements, electrical service entrances, infrastructure constraints) and arbitrate their design implications.
  • Coach and develop junior and intermediate designers through technical mentoring and plan reviews.
  • Standardize design practice with templates, checklists and shared tools.
  • Provide technical input on public tender submissions.

The ideal profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or a related discipline with a proven electrical track record), and membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec with the ability to seal plans.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical design, including significant exposure to lighting and/or control systems.
  • Proven experience directly supervising at least 3 designers, or an equivalent discipline-lead role with active mentoring.
  • Command of photometric tools (AGi32 and/or DIALux), the Québec Construction Code — Chapter V, Electricity (CSA C22.10) and IES standards, notably RP-8.
  • Comfortable performing and supervising field surveys, with occasional regional travel (valid driver’s licence required).
  • Professional French, spoken and written; functional English for pan-Canadian collaboration.
  • Asset: experience with turnkey ESCO projects or smart street lighting platforms.

What our client offers

  • Competitive compensation of up to $110,000, plus an annual bonus.
  • Comprehensive group insurance and a retirement plan.
  • Flexible schedule and a hybrid arrangement in downtown Montréal (McGill metro), with occasional field visits.
  • Employee and family assistance program and continuing education.
  • High-visibility mandate within a firm backed by a publicly traded Canadian group.
