Technical Director — Building Structures, up to $160,000 — Laval (hybrid)

The mandate

Larouche Raymond is representing a well-established Quebec consulting engineering firm recognized for the quality of its structural practice. Our client, experiencing sustained growth, is looking to anchor its expertise in the Laval area and has entrusted us with this strategic, confidential search. The role combines senior technical leadership, project management, and regional business development. It is a rare opportunity to directly influence the trajectory of an expanding firm.

The role day to day

• Ensure the technical rigour and code compliance of the division’s structural designs: reviewing calculations, validating systems, and signing and sealing plans and specifications.
• Lead a portfolio of institutional, commercial, real estate, residential, and industrial mandates, from preliminary design through site supervision.
• Select the optimal structural system — steel, concrete, wood, or hybrid — balancing architectural, budgetary, and constructability constraints.
• Coordinate structural designs with the civil, mechanical, architectural, and geotechnical disciplines.
• Develop engineers and technicians through active mentoring, deliverable reviews, and guidance on complex files.
• Contribute to regional service proposals: qualifying opportunities, writing technical proposals, and delivering client presentations.
• Represent the firm technically with clients, architects, public-sector owners, and regional partners.

The ideal profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or construction engineering and member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
• Minimum 8 years of building-structure experience with sealed designs; 10 to 15 years preferred.
• At least 3 years as a senior technical authority or structural team lead, supervising engineers and technicians.
• Command of the National Building Code (NBC) and at least three of the CSA standards S16 (steel), A23.3 (concrete), O86 (wood), and S304 (masonry); wood-construction expertise is a major asset.
• At least 5 major building projects (over $5M in construction value) designed, sealed, and supervised within the past 5 years.
• Professional Quebec French, spoken and written; experience in a BIM environment (Revit Structure or Tekla) and LEED awareness are assets.
