The mandate
Our client, a well-established general contractor in the Québec City region, is seeking a Project Manager to take full ownership of its building projects from planning through final delivery. Reporting directly to the Vice-President, you will act as the first point of contact between clients, consultants and all project resources. You will own execution follow-up, schedules, budgets and quality, while supervising the foremen assigned to your job sites. This is a high-accountability mandate for a seasoned manager who wants direct influence over how projects get delivered.
The role day to day
- Plan and organize projects end to end: execution follow-up, schedules, budgets and quality.
- Build and present detailed schedules in MS Project, including dates, durations, execution sequences and critical path.
- Analyze, negotiate, prepare and award contracts to subcontractors and suppliers.
- Prepare and present monthly budget forecasts, approve project invoices, and track directives and change orders with the project assistants.
- Plan, coordinate and lead site meetings; supervise the foremen assigned to your sites.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to validate work quality and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Manage final delivery, from provisional acceptance through deficiency correction to final acceptance.
The ideal profile
- A minimum of 10 years in a similar project-management role in the building industry.
- Demonstrated command of MS Project for detailed scheduling, including critical-path planning — a firm requirement.
- Working knowledge of Maestro (ERP) and the MS Office suite.
- Full proficiency in reading and interpreting plans, specifications and addenda.
- A technical diploma in architecture or a related field; an engineering degree, a professional certification (LEED, CSO, PMP) or membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec are considered assets.
- Excellent communication skills; an analytical, structured and autonomous profile, comfortable working under pressure.
